Niantic and East Lyme, CT Community

The American Legion Niantic serves as a vital center for our community, committed to assisting those who have served our country. As the Niantic branch of the nation’s largest veterans’ service organization, established in 1919, we focus on improving the lives of veterans, their families, military personnel, and the wider community through consistent mutual support. You can find us at 16 York Ave in Niantic, CT, and we are available to connect, offer resources, or involve you in our events from Tuesday to Saturday, between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

The American Legion organization as a whole champions several significant causes. We actively guide and support youth programs, cultivating patriotism and respect in younger generations. Additionally, we promote robust national security and maintain a firm dedication to our fellow service members and veterans, ensuring they receive the help and acknowledgment they merit. If you are a veteran seeking aid, a community member wanting to back our efforts, or a family member desiring connection, we encourage you to discover more about our work and how you can participate with the Niantic chapter.

In addition to the main membership, the American Legion family comprises two essential affiliated groups: The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion. The Auxiliary, a leading women’s patriotic service organization globally, initially supported The American Legion but has since developed its own distinct purpose. Collaborating closely with Legionnaires, the Auxiliary significantly advances our mission through extensive volunteer hours and devoted service, reflecting a spirit of empathy and dedication.

Likewise, the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) contributes significantly to our community engagement. SAL members show their commitment through considerable volunteer work, including over 250,000 hours at veterans’ hospitals and raising considerable funds for VA facilities. They also strongly back initiatives such as the Citizens Flag Alliance, working to preserve the honor of our national flag. Collectively, the Legion, Auxiliary, and SAL create a strong network of support for veterans and a beneficial influence within our local area.
