Niantic and East Lyme, CT Community

If you thought Halloween fun was only for those who could handle the spooky and the loud, think again! The Miracle League of Southeastern Connecticut is back with its 5th Annual Sensory Friendly Trick or Treat event on Saturday, October 25th, in East Lyme. This free, fully accessible, and sensory-friendly celebration invites individuals of all ages with disabilities and their families to join in some lighthearted Halloween fun without the usual sensory overload.

A Trick or Treat Event for Everyone

This event, held at the Miracle League Field located at 167 Boston Post Road, East Lyme, right behind Flanders Elementary School, is all about ensuring everyone can enjoy the Halloween festivities comfortably. The field is a fenced-in, fully accessible flat surface designed to accommodate guests of all abilities with ease.

From 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, families can stroll around the field trick-or-treating without worrying about the usual Halloween surprises. There will be no strobe lights, loud music, smoke machines, or any other startling effects. This calm approach means children and adults who are sensitive to sensory stimuli can have as much fun as anyone else.

Best of all, there is no need to register ahead of time. Just show up and be part of this welcoming community event. And if the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry—the rain date is set for Sunday, October 26th.

More Than Just Candy

The Miracle League event makes sure no one leaves empty-handed or uncertain about their safety and dietary needs. Allergy-friendly treats will be available, as well as non-food items for those who might not be able to enjoy traditional candy.

Costumes are encouraged but not required, so whether you want to dress as your favorite superhero, a friendly ghost, or prefer to come as you are, everyone is welcome. The spirit of Halloween is alive in kindness, acceptance, and pure fun.

Why Sensory Friendly Matters

For many families, Halloween can be a tricky holiday to enjoy. Bright flashing lights, loud noises, and unexpected sights can be overwhelming or even frightening, especially for those with sensory sensitivities or developmental disabilities. The Sensory Friendly Trick or Treat offers a chance to celebrate without anxiety or stress.

By removing the usual Halloween overstimulation, this event creates a space where children and adults can feel safe, included, and joyful. It’s a wonderful example of community support and thoughtful planning that puts kindness first.
